After an impressive half-century on his Test debut in Galle, Hardik Pandya justified his selection in the Test team with yet another brilliant knock as he slammed maiden Test century on the second day of the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele.

The 23-year old, who had scored 50 off 49 balls in Galle, reached the hundred off just 86 balls with seven fours and seven sixes. In fact, he moved from fifty to hundred off just 25 balls with two fours and six sixes. He took 61 balls to reach his half-century but 26 runs off Malinda Pushpakumara’s over helped him to score the next fifty very quickly. The 26 runs that he scored off one over is now the most runs taken off an over by an Indian batsman in Test cricket.

India were in a spot of bother after losing Wriddhiman Saha early on the third day but Pandya batted India to a position of strength. He shared 62 and 20 runs with Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami for the eighth and ninth wicket respectively before going berserk as India finished the innings on 487. Pandya was the last man to be dismissed when his shot went straight into Dilruwan Perera‘s hand at sweeper cover. The India allrounder scored 108 off 96 balls with the help of 8 fours and 7 well-timed sixes.
