Bangladesh have been nothing short of sensational in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Outstanding performances in the first two games meant Bangladesh have already sealed the series by a 2-0 margin and would look to register a series whitewash heading into the next game. The third and final ODI is scheduled to be played on Monday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Tamim Iqbal and Co. won the second ODI by a big margin of 88 runs. Bangladesh batted first and compiled a huge 304-run total on the board. Skipper Tamim Iqbal (12) and Shakib Al Hasan (20) got out early. However, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim produced goods and took the team to a great position in the game.

The duo compiled a match-defining 202-run partnership for the third wicket. Afghanistan couldn’t pick a single wicket from 16th to 47th over in the first innings. Liton Das managed to notch his fifth century in his ODI career. He compiled a match-winning knock of 136 runs in 126 deliveries. Mushfiqur Rahim, on the other hand, scored 86 runs in 93 balls, a knock that had 9 fours.
Afghanistan’s premier spinner, Rashid Khan failed to break that partnership. He managed to pick the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan but that was the only wicket he picked during that game. He finished with returns with 1 for 54 in 10 overs. Besides, the likes of Mujeeb Ur Rahman (0 for 49) and M Nabi (0 for 26) also endured forgettable returns with the ball.

In pursuit of that score, Afghanistan made the worst possible start. The likes of Riaz Hussan (1 off 2), Hashmatullah Shahidi (5 off 3), and Azmatullah Omarzai (9 off 3) got out cheaply as Afghanistan lost the first three wickets inside the first 10 overs with only 34 runs on the board. Rahmat Shah, however, held firm and spent some time at the crease. He joined hands with Najibullah Zadran and rebuilt the innings.
The duo put on an 89-run partnership for the fourth wicket and reignited some hope for the visitors. However, both of them got out after scoring their respective half-centuries. Rahmat Shah made 52 off 71 balls, while Najibullah Zadran amassed 54 off 61 balls. Once both of them got out, Afghanistan lost wickets quickly and were eventually bundled out for 218 runs in the second innings.
As for Bangladesh’s bowling, it was a combined bowling effort that helped them bundle Afghanistan out for a below-par total. Shakib Al Hasan (2 for 38) and Taskin Ahmed (2 for 31) starred with the ball in the bowling department. All the other bowlers picked one wicket each.
