Asia Cup 2018: India Has to Move Away From Dinesh Karthik – Sanjay Manjrekar
India once again showed the cold shoulder to KL Rahul for the clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2018. They stuck to Dinesh Karthik in the middle-order receiving all the flak from the analysts and the fans. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ajit Agarkar voiced their opinion on the Indian team selection.
Manjrekar feels that this is the time for India to move on from Karthik whose place is still uncertainty in the team. He feels that India should look after some exciting prospect for the future.
I am not convinced with Dinesh Karthik ahead of KL Rahul – Sanjay Manjrekar
The cricketer-turned-commentator expressed that Rahul is in ominous form and certainly a match-winner for India. Speaking of Karthik, Sanjay said that he is still struggling to make his place cemented in the team.
He went on to say that Karthik can be an option in the Twenty20 International cricket but certainly not in the ODI or Test formats of the game. He concluded it by saying that Rahul would have been a better choice.
”I thought KL Rahul has been brought to sort India’s batting issues in the limited overs. I think it is not such a bad idea to involve KL Rahul in this format of the game. However, they want to win the tournament and went with the 50-over specialist,” Manjrekar said.
Ajit Agarkar is happy with the decision:
Meanwhile, Agarkar who is on the same table with Majrekar felt that the decision to pick Karthik over Rahul can be taken in light away. He feels that the inclusion of KL will bring a change in the batting order.
”I don’t think it is too much important to stuck between Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul. Dinesh played last night and scored 30-odd. If they get KL back in the team, they need to drop down Ambati Rayudu. It wouldn’t have been a great option,” Agarkar added.
I don’t agree with this pushing for Dinesh Karthik – Sanjay Manjrekar
Further, the Manjrekar said that India should stop pushing Karthik in the 50-over game. He feels that the team needs to look after the young option rather than sticking with Karthik.
”I agree with Ambati Rayudu batting at number 3. Even Virat Kohli gave his number 3 for Rayudu when he played last time for India. But, I strongly disagree with the pushing for Dinesh Karthik. He might be a better option in T20 but not in ODI games. India needs to move away from Dinesh Karthik and start looking at the young players,” he inferred.
However, it seems like Sanjay Manjrekar has a valid point in his kitty. But as per the numbers, Dinesh Karthik hasn’t got enough chances and proved himself in the limited opportunities that he got on his way. As of now, he is the part of Asia Cup 2018 squad for Team India.
