Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara said Lasith Malinga is a fast bowler with a spinner mentality. Sangakkara believes Malinga is a master in setting up a batsman. Meanwhile, Lasith Malinga has made a fine comeback to the International stage as he bagged two wickets in his first over. Malinga is playing for Sri Lanka after a gap of more than one year. However, the talisman was right on the money. Malinga has bowled four overs and gave away only eight runs to pick up two wickets.
Malinga was able to set up Liton Das beautifully with back to back outswingers. The veteran fast bowler was on target with his deliveries as he bowled a fine in-swinging ball yorker to send back Shakib Al Hasan on the first ball.
Lasith Malinga makes a grand comeback.
However, Bangladesh’s veteran batsman Tamim Iqbal was retired hurt when he suffered a blow to his hand. Thus, the Tigers had their backs against the wall.
“Malinga is a fast bowler with a spinner’s mentality, he is so clever at setting up a batsman,” Kumar Sangakkara said while talking in the commentary box.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka was not able to apply the pressure with their bleak fielding. Sri Lanka’s captain Angelo Mathews fluffed one chance when he dived too early to catch the ball. Dilruwan Perera also bungled one chance at long-leg as Sri Lanka could hold on their chances. They also could not catch one, albeit it was a no-ball.
However, Sri Lankan bowlers didn’t let Bangladesh off the hook as they scored their runs a run-rate of under four runs per over.
Sri Lanka will like to keep applying the pressure as Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun are doing the rebuilding process. However, Bangladesh has found themselves on the mat.
