Asia Cup 2022: Pakistan vs Hong Kong- PAK Playing 11 vs HK (Predicted), Match 06. Pakistan will face Hong Kong in the 6th Match of Asia Cup 2022 in a Group A match at Sharjah on Friday, September 02, 2022. Hong Kong and Pakistan have faced each other in 3 matches in Asia Cup tournaments. Out of these 3 games, Pakistan has come out victorious each time. Pakistan has won all 3 ODIs against Hong Kong.
Pakistan started its campaign with a defeat to its arch-rivals India. On the other hand, Hong Kong will start its campaign against India as well on 31st August 2022. Pakistan could only manage 147 runs before getting all out. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with 43 but Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4/26 and Hardik Pandya’s 3/25 helped India restrict within a chasable target as well.
While chasing, India too faced a bit of a hiccup but Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja kept their cool and sealed the deal as well. As far as Hong Kong is concerned, they have qualified for the Asia Cup 2022 recently. They finished unbeaten in the Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers where they took on the UAE in the final and emerged victorious.
While the match is important for Pakistan to keep their hope alive with a win, this match is no less for Hong Kong as they would try to leave a mark with a win as well in Asia Cup 2022.
In their previous meeting in Asia Cup 2018 in the ODI format, Usman Khan Shinwari and Shadab Khan dismantled Hong Kong’s batting before Imam-ul-Haq’s fifty guided them to an eight-wicket win. Usman Khan Shinwari eventually decimated the lower-middle order resistance with three wickets in an over and Hong Kong folded for a meek 116 in 37.1 overs.
Pakistan 120 for 2 (Imam 50*, Azam 33, Ehsan Khan 2-34) beat Hong Kong 116 (Aizaz 27, Usman 3-18, Hasan 2-19, Shadab 2-31) by eight wickets
In their second meeting in Asia Cup 2008, Nadeem Ahmed, the Hong Kong left-arm spinner, sliced through the Pakistan middle-order as what was expected to be a straightforward opening encounter for the hosts threatened to become a tricky one before Sohail Tanvir and Fawad Alam’s rescue act.
The final scoreline might indicate an emphatic victory for Pakistan but it needed an Asia Cup-record 100-run eighth-wicket stand between Sohail Tanvir (59) and Fawad Alam (63*) to set up the win. Both of them made their maiden ODI half-centuries to lift Pakistan to 288, a score which proved well beyond the reach of Hong Kong’s inexperienced batsmen.
Pakistan 288 for 9 (Younis 67, Alam 63*, Tanvir 59, Nadeem 4-51) beat Hong Kong 133 (Tanvir 2-20, Iftikhar Anjum 2-18, Shahid Afridi 2-31) by 155 runs
In their first Asia Cup 2004 meeting at Colombo, Pakistan won by 173 runs (D/L method). Shoaib Malik (118) and Younis Khan (144) scored tons as Pakistan scored 343/5. In reply, Hong Kong scored only 165 chasing a revised target of 339 runs from 47 overs. Shoaib Malik picked up 4 wickets and was named MOM for his all-around performance.
Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik scored well-paced centuries, shared a 223-run partnership, and took Pakistan to 343 for 5, a score that ended the match as a contest at the halfway stage. Once this huge score was on the board, Hong Kong came under immense pressure and folded for 169, as Pakistan romped home by 173 runs.
Pakistan 343 for 5 (Younis 144, Malik 118) beat Hong Kong 165 (Malik 4-19) by 173 runs (D-L method)
Notably, in the previous edition in 2018, Hong Kong came genuinely close to beating India before losing by just 26 runs in its final ODI appearance. Nizakat Khan, who opened the batting for Hong Kong at the time, made 92 off 115. As the leader of the unit now in Asia Cup 2022, he is excited at being grouped alongside India and Pakistan in Group A.
Hong Kong has come the closest among the Asian associate nations, who have been trying to enter the den of the continental giants. In three of its four Asia Cup appearances in 2008, 2018, and 2022, Hong Kong has been directly placed alongside India and Pakistan in the group stage.
In Asia Cup 2022, Hong Kong will have an uphill task when they take on overwhelming favourites, India at the Dubai International Stadium on 30th August 2022. Following their Asia Cup 2022 match against defending champions India on Wednesday (Aug 30th), Nizakat Khan-led Hong Kong will take on Babar Azam-led Pakistan in their second Group A encounter on Friday (Sept. 2) in Sharjah.
