India take on Afghanistan in match 5 of the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022. With India losing against Pakistan, none of the teams is unbeaten in this competition now. This is the last match for both these teams in the Super 4 stage and a must-win game at that.
India have lost both their games in the Super 4 stage so far. Sri Lanka beat India by six wickets on Tuesday. India’s last game against Afghanistan thus becomes a must-win for them. The Men in Blue now needs other results to go in their favour to make the finals.
India lost against Pakistan in their first Super 4 game and then lost against Sri Lanka. The loss against Pakistan exposed the weak link in the Indian bowling attack. The loss against Sri Lanka was also due to the bowling attack not being able to defend the target. With 21 required off 12 balls, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave 14 runs in the 19th over and the Lankans managed to score the last seven runs from Arshdeep Singh in the 20th over.
Heading into this game, India needs to have a sorted bowling attack. Yuzvendra Chahal who is not having a great tournament might be benched for this game with Ravichandran Ashwin getting a game. As far as the batters are concerned, they need to bat with a little more intent than they did against Pakistan, especially in the middle overs. The Indian top order needs to give a great start for the middle and lower order to capitalise.
