Bangladesh and Sri Lanka take on each other in match 5 of Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on Thursday, September 1. This is the second game for both teams. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are placed in Group B. India and Pakistan are placed in group A along with the qualifier Hong Kong. All the matches will be played in Dubai and Sharjah.

Afghanistan defeated both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are became the first team from group B to qualify for the Super 4. The match between The Lankans and the Tigers thus becomes an eliminator. The team that wins goes through to the Super 4.

This Asia Cup will be played in the 202- format given this is the year of the T20 World Cup which will be played later this year in Australia. The 2018 Asia Cup was played in the 50-over format.

 A total of 13 matches will take place during the tournament. India are the defending champions of the tournament, which won the title back in 2018 by defeating Bangladesh in the final. India has also won the most 7 Asia Cup titles so far. Sri Lanka comes next with 5 titles while Pakistan has won 2 titles.

Talking about Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh T20I rivalry, both teams have played 12 matches with The Tigers winning four and Sri Lanka 8 games. The Lankans also have an edge in Asia Cup games against Bangladesh winning 11 out of the 14 matches played.

During the group stage, each team will play one match against the teams in their group. The top 2 teams from both groups will qualify for the super four round. During the super 4 round, each team will play one match against the other. The top two teams will qualify for the final which will be played on September 11 in Dubai.

Conditions for cricket in both Dubai and Sharjah have been hot and humid. The Pakistani bowlers in the game against India had problems with cramps in the final phase of the game. The temperature is expected to be a major problem for the players in the remaining phase of the tournament. In an evening game, the temperature is expected to be around 33 to 35 degrees with humidity close to 50 per cent throughout the game.

Talking about the venue, Dubai has hosted 76 T20I matches with teams chasing winning 41 games and teams batting first winning 34. Chasing has been the mantra of winning games at the venue which is expected to remain the same.
