Sri Lanka Meteorological Department director-general Athula Karunanayake provided a positive weather update ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four clash between India and Pakistan. He said that the chances of rain after 9th September are very low and conditions will be good for cricket.
The rains in Sri Lanka have frustrated many as fans are not able to witness full games. The much-anticipated game between India and Pakistan was washed out and the weather curtailed the game between India and Nepal.
The rain gods haven’t been in mind as the weather in Sri Lanka is still gloomy and might hamper Super Four games as well. India is slated to play games in Colombo, where the persistent rains have created quite a few doubts in the minds of cricket lovers.
The India vs Pakistan game is slated to take place on 10th September. Rain is also predicted on that day. The forecast also looks gloomy for their second game against Sri Lanka at the same venue on September 12 and then against Bangladesh on September 15.
However, as per the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department, heavy rains are expected till 9th September. He added that on 10th September, it’ll be most sunny with very less amount of rain.
Speaking to PTI, he elaborated: “During this time of the year, which is the end of the southwest monsoon period, the southwestern part of Sri Lanka receives more rainfall.
“In the last two weeks, we witnessed more rain in the western province. The western province could receive a bit of rain, but after September 9, it would be sunny and cloudy but with very little rain.”

Athula Karunanayake, the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department director-general, added that there are few showers expected in the western province but by the Asia Cup final, everything will be cleared.
He explained: “In the coming week, the western province could get a few showers but by September 17, the day the Asia Cup final will be played, rains are expected to subside.”
The first game between India and Pakistan was washed out due to rain. The game only saw the first innings taking place but after that second innings didn’t take place due to heavy rains.
