India and Australia face each other in the second T20I in Nagpur on Friday, September 23. The hosts lost the first T20I in Mohali and are in a must-win situation.
Australia, on the other hand, is eyeing a whitewash. The series is a perfect dress rehearsal for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup. India have five games to go ahead of their first T20 World Cup game against Pakistan to sort out their playing combination.
The captains from both teams had different reactions to the game. Australian skipper Aaron Finch sounded happy with how the match panned out. He congratulated his teammates on the win where they chased down a record score.
“It was a good contest, wasn’t it? We had some really good partnerships, there were some good contests between the bat and ball. They came hard at us. You expect the run rate to slow down if you lose wickets. The batters tried to change the momentum of the game. That’s what we play for, we still try to instil all the processes leading into the World Cup” said Finch.
“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances in the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but the bowlers were not quite there. There are things we need to look at, but it was a great game for us to understand what went wrong. We know this is a high-scoring ground. You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well” said Rohit.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to make a comeback into the Indian playing XI for the second T20I. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav both might be dropped from the XI with Bumrah and Deepak Chahar taking their place.
“The team management did not want to rush him and that is the reason for his absence in the Mohali game. He has been bowling full blast at the nets and he is ready for action” a BCCI official aware of Bumrah’s fitness update said.
