1) Lower-Order Contributions
India’s lower order has got the team out of trouble once again in the second Test. Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took the first four Indian wickets to fall on day 2. It was then that the lower order came up with key contributions. Ravindra Jadeja (26) first added 59 runs with Virat Kohli (44). Then it was Axar Patel (74) and Ravichandran Ashwin adding 114 runs for the 8th wicket-taking India close to the Australian total. After Ashwin was dismissed, Australia cleaned up the Indian tailenders soon with Mohammed Shami the last wicket to fall.
2) Virat Kohli’s Stylish 44
With questions on Virat Kohli’s form in Test matches. he looked comfortable batting against Nathan Lyon and co on day 2 of the Delhi Test. He looked set to get a big score and looked in no trouble whatsoever. However, he was out to a controversial decision from on-field umpire Nitin Menon which was upheld by the third-umpire Richard Illingworth. Matthew Kuhnemann trapped him before the wicket and he was ultimately ruled out after a long deliberation by the third umpire. The former Indian skipper played a lofted shot to hit one of his four boundaries in his innings.
3) Axar Patel’s batting approach
Axar Patel scored 84 in the only innings India batted in Nagpur and the left-hander scored another impressive 74 in the first innings of the Delhi Test. With his batting contributions, he is making his presence felt in the Indian side and is also ruling out the participation of Kuldeep Yadav as the third spinner in the Indian Test team. The all-rounder has already scored 158 runs in the series so far.
