Former Australia National Cricket Team captain Aaron Finch, who recently bid adieu to international cricket, believes that getting pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah back into the team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is crucial for Team India as his absence will be a massive blow to the side’s chances in the marquee tournament.

The 29-year-old Bumrah has been out of action for an extended period of time. He last played international cricket for India in September 2022, before being ruled out with a back injury. He recently underwent back surgery in New Zealand and is now hoping to regain full fitness ahead of the World Cup at home.

Speaking to the Times of India, Aaron Finch labelled Bumrah as the “best in the world”. He added that the “dangerous” pacer is a genuine wicket-taker.

“I think getting Jasprit Bumrah back is vital for India. He is the best in the world when he is up and running. So, if he is not available, that will probably lead to a hole in the innings in terms of wicket-taking ability because he is so dangerous,” Aaron Finch said.

There are not many weaknesses in the Indian team – Aaron Finch

Talking further about Team India, Aaron Finch said that Rohit Sharma & Co. have all their bases covered and there are not many weaknesses in the side.

Finch reckons that Team India have got good top-order, power-hitting batters in the middle order, great spinners and an excellent fast-bowling unit. As per the World Cup-winning captain Aaron Finch, the execution on a given day in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will matter the most for Team India.

“But if the Indian opening combination, gets a good platform, then the rest of the team can be aggressive. There is power in the middle order with Hardik and Sky being there. There are not many weaknesses in the Indian team. They have got great spin options and very good fast bowlers. What will come down to in the World Cup will be execution on a particular day – a spell from a particular bowler or an innings from a batsman,” Aaron Finch further said.

Team India have failed to capture any major ICC title since 2013 and they have failed to perform in the multi-nation tournaments. With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 being held in India, there will be extra pressure on the home side to finally end their ICC trophy drought.
