The young player Rishabh Pant was expected to be the first-choice wicketkeeper for India in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023. However, the left-handed batter was ruled out of the four-match Test series between India and Australia due to the injuries he sustained in a car accident on December 30. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar shared an emotional message for Pant in the commentary during Australia’s second innings.
Rishabh Pant was India’s top run-scorer in Tests last year and has been one of the most consistent batters for the country in red-ball cricket for the last three or four years. There is no official confirmation of his return to the field, and he is likely to be sidelined for most of the 2023 season, including the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the ODI World Cup later this year. The southpaw still needs some time before returning to training.

We Are Missing You, Get Well Soon – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar shared an emotional message in the commentary box for Rishabh Pant during Australia’s second innings. The former India captain said he missed Pant’s voice behind the stumps and wished him a speedy recovery. He believes that Australia are fortunate not to have Pant, adding that he would have plenty to say to the batsmen and teammates.
“Australia are lucky that Rishabh Pant is not there. He would have had a fair bit to say, not necessarily to the batters but certainly to his teammates. Rishabh if you are listening, we are missing you, get well soon,” Gavaskar said.
Team India missed Rishabh Pant as an aggressive batter in the middle order, and fans remembered him when India were reduced to 139 for 7 wickets. However, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin made a crucial partnership of 114 runs for the eighth wicket to help India post a good total of 262 runs.
