Indian opening batter KL Rahul has been going through a lean patch in Test cricket and has been sacked as vice-captain for the last two Test matches of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). With the debate raging over Shubman Gill’s inclusion in the playing XI for the third Test, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik believes the break will benefit KL Rahul ahead of the ODI series.
KL Rahul failed to make an impact in the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia, scoring only 38 runs in three innings. The right-handed batter hasn’t scored a half-century in his last 10 Test innings, registering scores of 8, 12, 10, 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17, and 1. The 30-year-old captain led Team India in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

KL Rahul Played The Best Shot Possible To That Ball – Dinesh Karthik
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik believes that KL Rahul’s dismissal in the second innings of the Delhi Test was unfortunate. Karthik said that he will be dropped for the rest of the matches because of his performance in the last few Test matches.
“I think he [KL Rahul] played the best shot possible to that ball. But he would also know that if he is going to be dropped for the remaining matches, which is pretty much an eventuality, it is not because of this one inning. It is because of what has happened and transpired over the last five or six Test matches,” Dinesh Karthik told Cricbuzz.
Rahul was dismissed off the bowling of Nathan Lyon as the ball rebounded off short-leg fielder Peter Handscomb and went into the hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

He Might Need Some Time Off From The Game – Dinesh Karthik
The 37-year-old said that Rahul is one of the best batsmen in the cricket world and hopes for his successful comeback soon. Karthik said that Rahul should consider taking a break to prepare for the three-match ODI series against Australia.
“He is a class player and is very good in all formats. But at this point in time, I don’t think it’s the technique. I think it’s because of what happens between the ears that’s really troubling him. He might need some time off from the game to go back and come back fresh for the ODIs,” Karthik added.
India will take on Australia in the third match at the Holkar Stadium in Indore starting on Wednesday, March 1. Following the Test series, India will play three ODIs against Australia, with the first match starting in Mumbai on March 17. The remaining matches will be played in Visakhapatnam (March 19) and Chennai (March 22), respectively.
