Steve Smith gave a glimpse of his smart captaincy when he led Australia to a win in the third Test in Indore. Smith was named as the captain of the side in the absence of Pat Cummins who decided to stay back at home due to his mother’s illness who subsequently passed away.
The last two Test matches gave Smith an opportunity to show his knowledge of the game as the Test captain. It was by his sheer knowledge of the game and his ability to understand the game that he led Australia to a win in the Indore Test and helped them make a comeback in the series.

Ravichandran Ashwin who has had many face-offs with Steve Smith praised the latter for his smart captaincy in the last two tests. Ashwin who is himself a great reader of the game praised Smith for the way he went about leading Australia in the last two Tests and especially at Indore.

“Steven Smith led the Australians in an outstanding manner under such circumstances. He is very creative and gets the game. We are aware of the fact that he is a great batsman, but to be a great student of the game, you need to know all the nuances. “He gets the game. He knows when to do what and he gets the hang of the game” said Ashwin on Smith’s captaincy.

He Never Let Us Take Control In Indore Test: Ravichandran Ashwin On Steve Smith
The Indian off-spinner especially hailed Smith for the way he led India in the Indore Test match not allowing India to get into the game. He also made good use of Nathan Lyon who ended with 11 wickets in the match.
“He lead them really well in the last two Tests, be it field placement or bowling changes, he was spot on. He never let us take control in the Indore Test” said Smith.
This was a series when the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Nathan Lyon both showed their class with the ball. Lyon and Ashwin got to many landmarks in the series. He went past 100 wickets against India in Test matches and got to 50 wickets against India in India.
Courtesy of his six-fer in the first innings of the fourth Test, Ashwin ended the series with 25 wickets, followed by Lyon and Ravindra Jadeja with 22 each.
