Cheteshwar Pujara, the centerpiece of Team India’s batting, is about to reach an important achievement as he will play his 100th Test match in the next series against Australia. Former Indian captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly think the experienced player, who needs a century against the Australians, will have a huge series.

Some of the biggest names in cricket, like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Rohit Sharma, and many others, will appear in the series.

The Australians will also be watching India’s red-ball specialist Cheteshwar Pujara. The right-handed batter has an outstanding record against the Kangaroos, and his performance from 2018–19 will always be regarded as a masterwork. Pujara eventually concluded as the game’s top run-scorer with 521 runs scored from seven innings at a respectable average of 74.43.

However, Pujara was unable to repeat the feat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s subsequent iteration. He also went through a dry spell in the interim, but the batter found his form again while spending the summers in England playing for Sussex.

“Cheteshwar Pujara needs to be at his best”: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, a former India captain, stated that the upcoming series will be critical for the Saurashtra batsman prior to the highly awaited match, pointing out the lack of centuries against powerful teams.

“He’s playing his 100th Test in Delhi and that’s a great achievement. He will be the 13th Indian to play 100 Test matches and he totally deserves it. But he also needs to be at his best because, after the last three years, even he needs a Test hundred against good attacks. It will be a big series for him,” said Sourav Ganguly in an interview with Sportstar.

In the first Test against Bangladesh, Pujara broke a four-year century drought by hitting an unbeaten 102 off 130 balls, which was also his fastest century in the longer format.
