The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not picked the young batter Sarfaraz Khan in the Test squad for the first two matches of the upcoming four-match series against Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has criticized the BCCI for not selecting Sarfaraz, who has performed consistently in the Ranji Trophy in the last three seasons.
The 25-year-old has been a prolific run-getter for Mumbai in domestic cricket and scored 556 runs in six Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 92.66, including three centuries and one half-century. The right-handed batter was the highest run scorer in the 2021–22 Ranji season with 982 runs in just 9 innings at a sublime average of 122.75. His fellow Mumbai cricketer, Suryakumar Yadav, was selected ahead of him for the first two Tests.

If You Don’t Bring Him Now, Then When? – Danish Kaneria
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Danish Kaneria opined that there is no one as consistent as Sarfaraz in Team India right now. Kaneria said that not getting a chance will affect Sarfaraz’s game.
“If you don’t bring him now, then when? I don’t think anyone has a better form than Sarfaraz currently, even in the Indian team. He will get disheartened if you don’t raise his confidence or spirits. Keep an eye on him,” Danish Kaneria said.
The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will take place in Nagpur on February 9. The second test will be held in Delhi (February 17–21), the third in Dharamsala (March 1–5), and the fourth in Ahmedabad (March 9-13).

Kaneria feels that Sarfaraz Khan should have at least been a part of the T20I squad in the absence of senior players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul.
“Sarfaraz Khan, who has scored well in domestic cricket, is being ignored. He should be part of the squad. If you don’t give these players a chance, it’s not right (zyati). He is scripting record after record and making lots of runs,” he added.
