Indian pacer Mohammed Shami took three for 17 in six overs as he played a big role in India winning the first ODI against Australia in Mumbai on Friday, March 17. He and Mohammed Siraj took six wickets between themselves giving away just 46 runs.Â
India bowled out Australia for a paltry 188 and then chased down the score inside 40 overs. KL Rahul proved his critics wrong as he scored an unbeaten 75 off 91 balls along with Ravindra Jadeja who scored an unbeaten 45 off 69 balls. The duo shared an unbeaten stand of 108 runs taking India to a win. Sipper Hardik Pandya played a crucial innings of 25 off 32 balls in the chase as well.Â

Meanwhile, after the game, Mohammed Shami addressed the post-match press conference. He was asked whether ODI cricket has become increasingly difficult for the bowlers.
Bowlers Ke Against Kaafi Cheezein Hai: Mohammed Shami On ODI Cricket
Shami said that the Indian team doesn’t allow the conditions to dictate terms and is the best team to play in any given condition and against any opposition.Â
“There are a lot of add-ons in white-ball cricket. You get a free hit for a no-ball and then you can’t get out too. Toh bowlers ke against mein kafi cheezein hai (There are things against the bowlers). It changes according to the format. But as far as our team is concerned, it doesn’t matter whether we are playing at home or abroad. I don’t think there is any question mark on the Indian team” said Shami.Â

Hum Kisi Bhi Condition Mein Sabse Aage Hai: Mohammed Shami
The veteran Indian pacer also had a word on the Australian team as an opposition. He said that India have won against Australia in their own backyard and are favorites to win the ODI series at home. India won the Test series 2-1 heading into this ODI series and are leading 1-0 after the first ODI win.Â
“Hum kisi bhi condition mein honge, hum sabse age hai. Hume kar ke bhi dikhaya hai. humne unko ghar pe jake bhi haraya hai toh apne ghar mein toh sochne ka sawal hi nahi hai (We are ahead of every team irrespective of the conditions. We have shown it in the past too. We have beaten them in their backyard so there is no question of worrying when we are playing at home),” Shami told reporters in Mumbai.
He concluded by keeping a word on KL Rahul‘s innings. He hit seven fours and one six in his innings and was under pressure to perform coming into this match.Â
“He has played so many good innings in the past. It happens sometimes that luck does not favour you, or things are not working out well if you are trying to do something. The pressure (on Rahul) was certainly there, we had lost so many wickets in quick succession but the way he rebuilt, it was very nice to see that one of our players has made runs in a pressure situation,” Shami said.
The second ODI will be played on March 19 (Visakhapatnam) and the third on March 22 (Chennai).
