Mitchell Marsh lavished admiration on the returning spinner, applauding the way Ashton Agar carried himself during the difficult period. Ashton Agar’s tour to India was quite unpredictable. Todd Murphy replaced the all-rounder, who had previously served as Australia’s second spinner in Tests behind Nathan Lyon, in the first match of the series in Nagpur.

Ashton Agar was in India for the Sheffield Shield final and hadn’t played until game three, having missed the Big Bash final to prepare for a Test tour in which he never played.

Ashton Agar was still overlooked when the action moved to Delhi and Australia realized they needed to select three spinners, opting instead for Matthew Kuhnemann, a left-arm spinner like Agar, who made his debut despite not being included in their original tour team. After winning the One-Day Cup with Western Australia, Agar went back home before joining the ODI team in India.

Before earning his chance in the championship game at Chennai, where the pitch was anticipated to turn, Ashton Agar sat out the first two ODIs in which Australia used Adam Zampa as their lone spinner. As the opportunity presented itself, Ashton Agar’s fortitude stood out as he significantly contributed to Australia’s victory. The middle-overs batting slump in India was brought on by the left-arm spinner.
