Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, popularly known as the “Rawalpindi Express”, holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery in international cricket. Shoaib Akhtar was the first cricket player to ever bowl at a pace of 100 mph, clocking 161.3 km/h against England during the 2003 World Cup.

Many cricket fans and former cricketers believe that Umran Malik has the potential to break the fast delivery record. The Jammu and Kashmir bowler clocked 157 kmph in the Indian Premier League. The tearaway pacer bowled the fastest delivery ever bowled by an Indian international cricketer when he clocked 155 kmph against Dasun Shanaka in January this year.

Bowl With A Big Heart – Shoaib Akhtar

Shoaib Akhtar advised Umran Malik to bowl courageously and learn the art of bowling quickly to break his fastest delivery record. Shoaib encouraged Malik to bowl with a big heart and never reduce his aggression while bowling.

“He is very good. He is very strong and has a powerful run-up. He has nice arm speed. You saw when he struck Shanaka, it was ruthless bowling. So Umran, bowl courageously and learn the art of bowling quickly. Learn the technical aspect,” Shoaib Akhtar told to News24.

“Never reduce your aggression, even if you are getting beaten a lot, then also don’t reduce your aggression. Always bowl fast, and never leave it. When you go to the field, the ownership of the ground has to be yours. Don’t break and train a lot. You are playing for a great country. People care a lot and respect a lot. So never let down their feelings and bowl with a big heart.”

It’s Been 20 Years And It Hasn’t Been Broken – Shoaib Akhtar

Akhtar expressed his willingness to help Umran when needed and explained how the Indian bowler could increase his speed by taking 20 yards instead of 26 yards. The 47-year-old encouraged Umran to break his record, saying he would be the first to hug and kiss him if it was broken.

“I would take 26 yards to bowl. But Umran takes 20 yards. So when he goes to 26 yards, he will have different muscles. I am sure in times to come he will learn. If he needs any help I am always there for him. If you want to break my record please take it away. It’s been 20 years and it hasn’t been broken, please break it. I will be the first guy to hug and kiss you”, he said.

Shoaib Akhtar represented Pakistan in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs, and 15 T20Is. The former Pakistan speedster picked up 178 wickets in Tests, 247 wickets in ODIs, and 21 wickets in T20Is, respectively.
