The left-arm spinner Ashton Agar has spoken up on returning home in the middle of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in India. Ashton Agar said that his Test cricket career isn’t over yet, as he wants to represent Australia in all three formats of the game.

Ashton Agar arrived in India as Australia’s second-choice spinner but did not get a chance to play in the first two matches. Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann were preferred over him in the playing XI as the spin bowling partners of Nathan Lyon. The 29-year-old decided to return home after being overlooked.

It’s A Very Clear Direction For Me – Ashton Agar

Ashton Agar admitted that he has no ill feelings about his recent Test snub as he prepares to return to India for the three-match ODI series. Agar revealed he was motivated to look forward and not back after failing to make the starting XI in the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi.

“They felt I wasn’t bowling as well as I needed to be and that’s fair enough. It’s a very clear direction for me now to just work on it and improve,” Agar said after the Marsh Cup final.

“I harbour no ill will or ill feeling at all. I’m very well supported in that (Australian) camp and they’ve kept in constant communication with me, so it’s all in a good place. I’ve been a professional cricketer for ten years now, so I’m far more resilient than when I started. It’s a tough game, it’s a ruthless environment, and that’s how it should be because it’s the pinnacle of the sport,” he added.

Agar helped Western Australia to consecutive Marsh One-Day Cup titles with his career-best List A performance, claiming 5-64 in the final against South Australia. He will be part of the three-match series against India, which will begin on March 17 in Mumbai.
