The first IND vs AUS ODI will be played in Mumbai on January 17. India won the Test series 2-1 heading into the ODI series. They also qualified for the WTC final in the process and will face Australia at The Oval from June 7-11.
Hardik Pandya will lead India in the first ODI in the absence of Rohit Sharma who is unavailable for selection for the first game. Steve Smith will lead Australia as Pat Cummins has decided to stay back at home after the demise of his mother.Â

Both teams have played 143 ODIs till date with India winning 53 matches while Australia 80. The last time both these teas faced was in a T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup. India won the series 2-1. Â
The BCCI and Cricket Australia have announced a strong squad for the three-match ODI series. Both the teams would take the series as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming ODI series at home. The first ODI will be played in Mumbai on March 17, the second in Vizag on March 19 and the final ODI in Chennai on March 22.

There are reports that both teams will be open to rotation of their playing XIs during this three-match series ensuring that the players from both sides get ample opportunities to prove their skill.Â

As said earlier India will be led by Hardik Pandya who is himself making a comeback to the national team after a long gap. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the series after his back problems reoccurred in the Test series against Australia. The likes of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and also Rohit Sharma need to adjust to the ODI format after playing Test matches in the past month.Â
Mohammed Shami will lead the Indian attack with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah continues to sit out as Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also not a part of the side., Ravindra Jadeja will make a comeback to the ODI side after performing really well with the ball in the Test matches. Along with him are Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar as all-round options along with Hardik himself. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are specialist spinners.Â

Australia have injury concerns with David Warner ahead of the first ODI. He will need to get a medical clearance to play the first ODI. He missed the last two Tests due to a concussion and also an elbow injury from which he has reportedly recovered. Yet the Australian medical team will be assessing him before confirming his participation in the first ODI.Â
The side will be led by Steve Smith with Mitchell Starc leading the bowling attack in the absence of Pat Cummins. Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar are their specialist spinners with the all-rounders being the real strength of this ODI side.Â
