After Australia’s morning session of Day 2 saw them being bowled out for 197, Nathan Lyon spun a web around the Indian side, dismissing key players such as Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Cheteshwar Pujara following a decent 88-run lead. 

With this being his 23rd 5-wicket haul in a Test match and his 9th against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Nathan Lyon now trails only Anil Kumble’s record of 10. On Thursday, India’s second innings ended at 163, leaving Australia with a target of 76 to win the third Test in Indore.

Cheteshwar Pujara was India’s top scorer with a gritty 59, while Nathan Lyon emerged as the standout bowler for Australia, claiming 8-64. India currently leads the four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 2-0.

Nathan Lyon Becomes The Highest Wicket Taker In BGT

On Thursday, during the second day of the third Test in Indore, Nathan Lyon broke Anil Kumble’s record to become the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His 112th Test wicket against India came with the dismissal of Umesh Yadav in the 57th over of India’s second innings.

With 112 wickets, Nathan Lyon has now claimed the most wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, surpassing Anil Kumble’s previous record of 111 wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin is third on the list with 106 wickets, followed by Harbhajan Singh with 95 wickets and Ravindra Jadeja with 84 wickets.

Additionally, Lyon has also surpassed Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan as the most successful spinner against India in Test cricket after taking the wicket of Shubman Gill to achieve the record. 

Nathan Lyon is Australia’s most successful spinner after veteran Shane Warne and has played a crucial role in many of Australia’s pivotal victories, particularly against India.
