Legendary India National Cricket Team batter Sunil Gavaskar has heaped massive praise on the premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his tremendous comeback to international cricket after a long injury layoff.

Jadeja won the Player of the Match award for his sensational all-round show in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series-opener against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur.

The all-rounder finished the match with the bowling figures of 5/47 & 2/34 and he scored excellent 70 runs in the only innings India batted.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar has stated that Jadeja has been a consistent performer for India and in his absence, Axar Patel stepped up and delivered brilliant performances. Notably, the spin-bowling all-rounder Axar scored outstanding 84 runs off 174 balls, with 10 fours and 1 six, in the first Test. With the ball, he only got one wicket as his bowling partners bagged the rest of the wickets.

“Here is a man who has been performing regularly for India. He was out of the team due to injury, after which Axar Patel comes in and grabs his chance and that is such a fantastic thing for Indian cricket to have bench strength where players are ready,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying to India Today.

Gavaskar further said that Jadeja’s return to international cricket has been tremendous. He added that the all-rounder showed batting brilliance and a bowling masterclass against Australia.

“Jadeja’s comeback has been tremendous. We didn’t see much about his fielding as he was at mid-off and there about. But as a bowler, he was on target from the outset. As a batter, he once again showed that he is going to score more and more runs for India. His wicket has to be earned by the opposition,” Gavaskar added.

Notably, Ravindra Jadeja played a Ranji Trophy game before his return to Test cricket. He represented Saurashtra in the match against Tamil Nadu in the Elite Group B game. He performed brilliantly in that match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, registering bowling figures of 1/48 & 7/53 and scoring 15 & 25.
