There have been a lot of talks surrounding the possible batting order the Indian side could field for the Test series against Australia starting the 9th of February and we could see the team management rely on their traditional approach or maybe make some changes to throw the opposition of their game.
As of now, fans and experts are expecting the home side to open the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma alongside his deputy KL Rahul and then drop down to Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill as their key batters. However, former head coach Ravi Shastri who played an essential role in India’s triumph in two Border Gavaskar Trophies believes that the team could field Suryakumar Yadav in place of Shubman Gill at number 5.

Suryakumar Yadav has done exceptionally well when it comes to the white-ball formats as of late and has been one of India’s cornerstones when it comes to the batting unit. Shastri thinks that the team management needs someone down the order who can fill in Rishabh Pant’s style of play to disrupt the opposition.
Blocking Won’t Help, Suryakumar Yadav Can Get The Runs Quickly: Ravi Shastri
While dropping Shubman Gill makes no sense at this point in time, with the batter being in the form of his life, Shastri’s word holds a lot of merits as Suryakumar Yadav can play the aggressor role in the middle order and keep the opposition on their toes.
“If you want to do well in India, you must rotate the strike and not let bowlers bowl maidens. Blocking won’t help. A quick 30 or 40 could decide the game. Surya can get runs quickly and disrupt the opposition,”

This seems like an interesting approach for team India if they wish to play attacking cricket. However, from the looks of it the team could stick to their standard approach and maybe push KL Rahul down the order and open the innings with Shubman Gill, leaving Suryakumar Yadav out on the bench.
