Indian Cricket Team is all set to clash against the dangerous Australian for 3-match ODI Series commencing from 17th March. Hardik Pandya will lead the side for the 1st ODI in the absence of Rohit Sharma who has opted to leave due to some personal reasons. Hardik Pandya’s captaincy would be tested where it is expected that the pitch at Wankhede Stadium would be a belter.

It won’t be wrong to say that Australia holds a slight edge as they have got multiple match winners present in the side in the form of Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell & Marcus Stoinis. The Aussies would be keen to repeat the success of the 2019 ODI Series (*in 2020, they had lost by 1-2) where they won the series against all odds.

Hardik Pandya on Jasprit Bumrah

Hardik Pandya was seen attending the press conference ahead of the 1st ODI and was asked whether Jasprit Bumrah’s absence would hurt team India.

“Jassi hasn’t been around for a quite some now. The bowling group, we have been doing a decent job. They’re all experienced now….the number of games they have played. Having Jassi makes a massive difference but to be very honest, we aren’t much bothered because the guys who have taken role of Jassi, I am quite confident they’ll be doing very well. It gives us good confidence,” said Hardik Pandya.

Hardik Pandya on Shreyas Iyer

Hardik Pandya was asked about the injury to Shreyas Iyer and also asked about work-load management & players getting injured frequently.

“I have been in that situation where back could be a problem….we’ll miss him but we have to find solutions if he isn’t around. If he is, he is of course welcome. There’s a lot of time to think about how we can go forward,” said Hardik Pandya

“That is not my call (asked about work-load management) . We have to have amount of faith in our S&Cs (Strength and Conditioning). I am a guy who trusts his team. These calls of workload, who should play when, who should not play that is completely On guy who are professionals and it is their call. All these guys are confident if they miss out some matches, then they miss out. It’s okay,” he stated.

“That’s the confidence we have. If someone misses out because of workload management, this management has shown confidence and trust in the players. I think that’s the reason players who have gone out have comeback with a lot of security,” he added.
