Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistani leg-spinner, believes Team India should use a rank-turner against Australia in the first Test at Nagpur. He criticized former Australian cricketer Ian Healy for saying that if the surface is a rank turner, it is “unfair.”

The surfaces that the hosts have provided to visiting teams have been the subject of heated controversy ever since India defeated England 3-1 in a Test series at home back in 2021. Healy asserted that India will win the series if they play on “unfair wickets” even before the first ball was played.

Danish Kaneria remarked in a video posted to his YouTube channel that the Australians are “playing mind games” with such assertions because they are “scared” of dealing with India’s powerful spin attack if they obtain a turning track.”

“I believe India ought to give Australia a rank-turner. The visitors should concentrate on how to handle the top-notch Indian spinners rather than making remarks. They are making such claims, in my opinion, out of fear of having to compete against such elite spinners on a twisting course” Danish Kaneria said.

“Australia will be without two crucial bowlers”: Danish Kaneria

Injuries to Mitchell Starc’s finger and Josh Hazlewood’s Achilles will prevent Australia from using their two veteran pacers in the opening Test. Since the circumstances are different in India than they are at home, Danish Kaneria is unsure if Scott Boland will be able to demonstrate the form he has demonstrated there.

“Australia will be without two crucial bowlers, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Much will be determined by how skipper Pat Cummins bowls and Scott Boland will need to back him up. He hasn’t bowled in these conditions before, so it’ll be intriguing to see if he can bowl long spells.” Danish Kaneria said.

A four-match Test series between India and Australia is scheduled, with the first game taking place in Nagpur from 9 to 13 February. India and Australia both want to win the series, therefore they will both try to win the first Test and take the lead. But neither team will find the assignment to be simple. A compelling cricket match is ensured by the quality squads that both India and Australia have chosen.
