Former Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Salman Butt has blamed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee for KL Rahul facing heavy criticism from cricket fans and pundits.

The 30-year-old was subjected to a lot of criticism because of his poor performances with the bat for an extended period of time. He was recently sacked as the vice-captain of both the white-ball team and the red-ball team and was dropped from the Test team in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

However, before dropping KL Rahul from the team, head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma backed the batter a lot, but when Rahul endured back-to-back failures they had no option left but to drop him from the team.

I believe that India’s selection committee is to blame for KL Rahul’s criticism – Salman Butt

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Salman Butt said that one should blame the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee for KL Rahul facing heavy criticism because they kept playing him consistently when he was struggling, which exposed him.

Salman Butt added that despite having in-form Shubman Gill in the squad, the management kept backing out-of-form Rahul.

“KL Rahul was criticized a lot during his lean patch. I believe that India’s selection committee is to blame for Rahul’s criticism. They kept on playing him consistently, even though he was out of form.

“They exposed him by doing so, despite having an in-form player like Shubman Gill in the squad. Yes, you need to give confidence to your players, but it can also be done through communication, and you can save them from unnecessary criticism,” Salman Butt said.

In the recently concluded 1st ODI against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, KL Rahul bounced back strong and smashed match-winning 75* runs. Chasing a comparatively low total on the surface where Mitchell Starc was breathing fire was not easy for the Men In Blue as they were reduced to 39/4. However, KL Rahul stitched together crucial partnerships first with Hardik Pandya and then with Ravindra Jadeja to guide India to a comprehensive 5-wicket victory.
