KL Rahul played a terrific knock of 75 runs in 91 balls where he struck 7 fours & 1 six. KL Rahul showed immense mental application as scoring runs was not easy as the pitch was a bit sluggish.
KL Rahul stitched a match-winning partnership of 108 runs with Ravindra Jadeja where he scored 45 runs in 69 balls where he struck 5 fours. India were in a precarious position at 83-5 in 19.2 overs. Mitchell Starc’s fiery spell of 3 wickets where he gave away 49 runs in his 9.5 overs wasn’t enough but he didn’t get ample support from the rest of the bowling unit. Perhaps, Mitchell Marsh should have shown some resistance as the batter was well set and had scored 81 runs in 65 balls where he struck 10 fours & 5 sixes. The batter was foxed by Ravindra Jadeja.

It didn’t look as if Hardik Pandya was leading the side for the first time in the ODI format. At one stage, the Aussies were 129-2 where Hardik’s decision to bring back Mohammed Shami did wonders for the team. Mohammed Shami had remarkable figures of 3 for 17 in his 6 overs spell where he bowled 2 maidens. It was a collective effort from the bowlers who they hunted in a pack.
With Rohit Sharma available for the remaining 2 matches, it would be interesting to see whether the management backs Ishan Kishan to come good or give Suryakumar Yadav a chance. Aussies would rue their batting performance as a score in excess of 270 runs would have made the difference.
