Following the Test series win against Australia, India will host three one-day internationals, with the first match scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, March 17. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who is considered one of the best batsmen the country has produced, is on the verge of breaking records in the upcoming series.

The 34-year-old struggled with his form for quite some time until last year, but he made a stunning comeback during the Asia Cup 2022 and scored a long-awaited international century. He never looked back since then and became the top run-scorer in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. The right-handed batter scored three centuries in his last seven ODI innings.

The 34-year-old ended his century drought in the longer format of the game, reaching the milestone after 1207 days. He scored his 28th Test and a 75th international century. Virat will be hoping to finish the last white-ball series on a high note before the start of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Delhi-born cricketer is 191 runs away from scoring 13,000 runs in ODI cricket, becoming the fifth batter to achieve the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar (18426), Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Ricky Ponting (13,704), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430). Kohli scored 46 hundreds in the 50-over format, and three more are needed to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 hundreds.

Kohli is in third place on the list of batters with the most runs at home in ODI cricket, followed by Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. He needs 49 more runs to surpass Ponting. He had eight hundreds against Australia and needed one more to equal Sachin’s record of most hundreds against Australia in ODIs.
