Virat Kohli recently shared the story of him meeting his wife Anushka Sharma for the first time, detailing the awkward experience of the two’s first meeting.

After dating for a few years, Virat married Anushka Sharma in December 2020. The two became parents for the first time in January 2021, naming their daughter Vamika.

Appearing on his friend and former RCB teammate AB de Villiers’ YouTube channel, the Indian batting maestro was asked about his first interaction with his now-wife. Kohli shared the story of the two meeting for a commercial shoot in 2013.

The 34-year-old claimed that he was quite nervous before meeting Anushka Sharma, who was by that point already a famous Bollywood star. But the two grew comfortable with each other’s presence and continued chatting after the first meeting.

“I remember I was so, so tensed before walking on the set (of the ad shoot in 2013). I was thinking ‘how am I going to say hi to her? What am I going to say?’. I was so completely out of it. I went there 5 minutes before her. I did not realise how tall she was.

“Out of nervousness, I didn’t realize how tall she was. So the first thing I told her when I saw her heels was, ‘Didn’t you get anything higher to wear?’ and she was like ‘Excuse me?’ It was so bad, I was so nervous. But then I figured out that she was a normal person and when we got talking I realized our background was so similar. From there on we became friends and then gradually we started dating, it didn’t happen instantly,” he added.

The two became friends soon after. It then evolved into them dating, and getting married.

Virat Kohli went on to tell the story of an awkward text conversation between him and Anushka Sharma before the two officially started dating.

Having grown close and become friends after meeting for the ad shoot, the two hung out for months before Virat sent her a message, he tells.

“‘When I used to be single, I used to do this and that..’ She is like ‘What do you mean you used to be?’. I had already decided in my mind that we were dating. That was again a little awkward. But then eventually, she found me to be a decent guy.”

Virat Kohli would ultimately highlight that Anushka Sharma has provided him great support throughout the years, through thick and thin. The two also find time from their busy schedules to vacation and spend time together.
