KL Rahul has been struggling as an opener for India, similar to David Warner’s struggles for Australia. His early dismissal on the second day of the second Test against Australia in New Delhi has further intensified the calls from experts and fans to remove him from the playing XI.

While fielding on Saturday, KL Rahul made a major error in judgment and allowed Australia’s Usman Khawaja to score a simple boundary, which only added to his poor form.

On the second day’s last session, in the sixth over of Australia’s second innings, Usman Khawaja hit a flighted delivery by Ravindra Jadeja towards mid-wicket for a boundary after clearing his front leg.

KL Rahul was fielding in the deep and had sufficient time to move towards the ball’s trajectory and prevent the boundary. However, he didn’t accurately judge the ball’s direction, stood still, and watched it roll past him towards the boundary rope.

Despite KL Rahul’s fielding mistake, Ravindra Jadeja’s next delivery got the wicket of Usman Khawaja, thanks to a remarkable catch taken by Shreyas Iyer. However, Australia still managed to increase their lead, finishing the second day’s play at 62 runs ahead with Travis Head unbeaten on 39 and Marnus Labuschagne not out on 16.

Things have not worked out for KL Rahul as of late and if the Indian batter continues to produce woeful performances one after the other, the team management will have no option left other than using Shubman Gill to replace the batter up top.
