The World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played on June 7 at the Oval later this year, will be an opportunity for Australia to get retribution after losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, however, the visitors managed to clinch the ODI series 2-1 against India.
The Australian captain Pat Cummins said, “We’ll have to wait and see” if David Warner will participate in the WTC final as he hoped for Warner’s return to the team.

With their victory in the Indore Test of the recently completed Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia earned a spot in the championship match. The final contest was then between India and Sri Lanka, with the latter needing to defeat New Zealand on the road by a score of 2-0 in the series. Instead, the Kiwis swept the series 2-0 to open up the WTC final for India.
It will be intriguing from Australia’s perspective to see if veteran opener David Warner makes the WTC final or not. Upon his return home from the second Test match against India in Delhi with a fractured elbow, Warner’s Test career has come under scrutiny. Since 2022, his Test form has raised suspicions. The left-hander has only amassed 607 runs in 14 games at an average of 26.39, while only recording scores of 1, 10, and 15 in his three batting innings during the tour of India.

“That’s been the hallmark of Davey’s career”- Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins, Australia’s captain, has stated that “we’ll have to wait and see” if David Warner will play in the World T20 final.
In English conditions, the southpaw averages 26.04, butPat Cummins backed him up on Fox Sports, saying, “But openers who can put pressure back on the bowlers, they’re precious.”
“I know as a bowler, if someone’s a sitting duck, you feel like you’re going to get them eventually. If someone’s kind of taking the game to you, it presents a different challenge. That’s been the hallmark of Davey’s career,” Pat Cummins added.
The Australian skipper recognized that it is challenging to start in England. “With the new ball over in England, the bowlers can have the upper hand. It appears to be around; it can be difficult for starting hitters”
Travis Head opened the batting for Australia in the final two Tests after Warner was forced to return home due to injury midway through the India tour. He scored 9, 49*, 32, and 90 runs.
Australia will take on India in the second ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, scheduled to be held at The Oval in London from June 7 to 11.
