Rohit Sharma‘s Team India is under pressure for the first time in this series. They are on the verge of losing the third Test with Australia chasing just 76 runs to win in Indore. The side have been bowled out for 109 and 163 in the two innings of the Test match and have been totally outplayed by Australia. The win at Indore will help the visitors pull one back and take the series 2-1.
Rohit Sharma after scoring a match-winning century in the first Test in Nagpur scored 12 each in the two innings of the Test match. None of the Indian batters were able to score big in the first innings. In the second innings, Cheteshwar Pujara scored 59 off 142 balls. His 59 and Shreyas Iyer’s 26 played a big part in India getting to 163.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was upset with Rohit Sharma’s tactics of sending Ravindra Jadeja to bat at number five in both innings of the Test match. Jadeja scored 4 & 7 in the two innings and the ploy of him sending up the order backfired for India. Jadeja batted at number six of seven throughout the Test match and he scored 70 batting at seven in the first Test.
With Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli batting at three and four, Jadeja was sent ahead of Shreyas Iyer at number five to maintain the left-right batting combination. However, as it turned out, Jadeja did not have the skill and the technique to bat in a tricky Indore pitch. Talking to Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar was left furious with Rohit’s tactics of sending Jadeja at number five.

Ravindra Jadeja Batting Ahead Of Shreyas Iyer Disappointed Me: Sanjay Manjrekar
“It has just disappointed me in the last and this innings as well that Jadeja came ahead of Shreyas Iyer. You can’t be doing that for left-right combination. You’ve got a proper batter…even if he is a right hander. And Jadeja coming in as a left-hander…I can understand when you have 2-3 left-arm spinners like Bangladesh used to have in the past. Here you have two quality off-spinners bowling. It did not make any sense to me. Iyer has a great feel for spinners so you want him ahead in the line-up. And he has shown his class,” he said.
Manjrekar also pointed out Steve Smith’s street-smart captaincy of dismissing Shreyas Iyer with pace as he is considered to be a good player of spin.
“Great captaincy too from Australia’s Steve Smith in the way he got Starc into the attack. They realised Iyer is so good against spin, let’s try him against pace,” he said.
