Ban on Musheer Khan a Bit Harsh, Says Dilip Vengsarkar

Former Indian National Cricket team player Dilip Vengsarkar feels a three-year ban on 14-year-old cricketer Musheer Khan by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is a bit too harsh. Meanwhile, the verdict has evokes a mixed response from the cricketing fraternity saying it as a career threating one.

In addition to, Vengsarkar feels it is the right time for the MCA and even the BCCI to start counselling centres, more so after the Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul controversy.

“I don’t want to comment on the decision of the ad hoc committee as I was out of India and do not know the details but on the face of it, this ban (on Musheer) looks a bit harsh,” Vengsarkar said.

“The BCCI must make young cricketers undergo counselling at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Similarly, the MCA must also introduce counselling for its young players as many of them come from a humble background,” he added.

Meanwhile, Musheer Khan’s teammate Vedanta Gadia had complained to MCA about Khan’s obscene behaviour in the sidelines of the Vijay Merchant quarterfinal game. Khan is the younger brother of India under-19 and Mumbai player Sarfaraz Khan, who has been enduring a slump of form in the domestic circuit.

As a result, Musheer Khan has been suspended with immediate effect and he can only play for Mumbai in 2022. It is probably the first time that the Mumbai Cricket Association has given such a serious ban to an under 16 cricketer.
