New Zealand and Bangladesh take on each other in the second Test of the two-match series at Hagley Oval Ground in Christchurch from 9th to 13th January 2022. Bangladesh stunned New Zealand in the first Test, having the game by 8 wickets. The Tigers restricted New Zealand to 328 runs in the first innings.
Playing his first Test after suffering an injury, Devon Conway scored a century, while Will Young scored 52 off 135 balls. Henry Nicholls also made a crucial contribution of 75 off 127 balls. However, the lower-order didn’t contribute as much as New Zealand couldn’t get to that 350-run mark. Bangladesh exhibited even better performance with the bat and went on to score a mammoth 458-run total in the second innings.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy (78 off 228) and Shanto (64 off 109) exhibited a terrific batting display at the top of the order. Skipper Mominul Haque (88 off 244), once again, played yet another outstanding knock, while Liton Das amassed 86 off 177 deliveries, including 10 fours.
Trailing by 130 runs, New Zealand needed a strong start to get back into the game. However, they couldn’t get the same as skipper Tom Latham got out on 14 runs off 30 deliveries. His partner, Will Young, however, brought up his second half-century in the Test match, while Ross Taylor contributed 40 off 104 balls. However, those contributions were never going to be enough for New Zealand to win the match.
Ebadot Hossain ran through New Zealand’s batting unit as he didn’t allow the opposition batsmen to build partnerships in the middle. He picked 6 for 46 to bundle New Zealand out for just 169 runs, thereby setting a target of 40 runs for Bangladesh to win the Test. Mominul Haque and Co. chased down the score with 8 wickets in hand.
