Melbourne Stars will take on Sydney Thunder in the seventh match of the BBL 2021-22 at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. The Stars haven’t made a great start to their campaign after losing to the last year’s champions in their first game. The bowlers didn’t have a great day at the office. All the bowlers went for over 8 runs an over and could only pick 3 wickets during the innings.

Sydney Sixers posted a mammoth 213-run total in the first innings. Chasing such a big score, Melbourne Stars needed a strong start but they didn’t get one. Dangerous Joe Clarke (1 off 2) and Nick Larkin (0 off 2) got out cheaply.

Skipper Glenn Maxwell (4 off 9) and Hilton Cartwright (10 off 9) also didn’t stay too long either. None of the batsmen stepped up for the team as they found themselves getting bundled out for just 61 runs inside 12 overs. It was a forgetting outing for the Stars with both bat and ball. They would look to bounce back strongly in the next game.

Facing them are Sydney Thunder, who exhibited a brilliant performance in their first match against Brisbane Heat. A collective bowling effort helped the team restrict the Brisbane Heat to 140 in the first innings. Both Gurinder Sandhu (2 off 17) and Daniel Sams (3 for 22) bowled beautifully in the first game. The duo not only bowled well in the powerplay but also took the wickets of dangerous-looking Duckett and Heazlett who were taking the game away from the Thunders.

In pursuit of the total, Sydney Thunders didn’t make a great start. English opener, Alex Hales got out on the second ball he faced, while his partner Sam Whiteman (11 off 9) too didn’t last too long at the crease. Sydney Thunder had, in fact, lost three wickets for just 32 runs inside the powerplay. However, what was was a match-winning unbeaten 109-run partnership between Sam Billings and Alex Ross.

The latter played some wonderful strokes and was the aggressor between the two. Alex Ross played an unbeaten 61-run knock-off 46 deliveries. Sam Billings started off cautiously before taking the aggressive route. He contributed 45 off 36, helping the team chase down the score in 17.1 overs.

Melbourne’s Stars bowling line-up doesn’t look too impressive and they might concede too many runs, once again, on Friday. Given how Sydney Thunders have started their campaign, we expect them to continue their winning momentum and win the game on Friday.
