They won the first game against Brisbane Heat but couldn’t register the second consecutive win in the next game against Melbourne Stars. Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, lost their first game but bounced back with a win against Sydney Thunder on Friday. Both the teams played against each other on Friday. And they will be taking on each other for the second time this season on Sunday.

The Stars batted first but didn’t get off to a great start. Stoinis (13), Joe Clarke (13), and Maxwell (16) all got starts but couldn’t convert those into big scores. However, Nick Larkin and Cartright then produced a match-turning partnership to take Melbourne Stars to 141 in 17.4 overs from 61 for 3 in 9.3 overs.

Nick Larkin played an unbeaten 52-run knock off 43 balls, while Cartwright scored 42 off 30 deliveries. Later, Andre Russell scored a notable 9-ball 17-run cameo to take Melbourne Stars to 165 runs in the first innings.

Stars’ bowlers, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa started off brilliantly in the second innings as the duo reduced Sydney Thunders to 29 for 2 in 3.1 overs. However, Mathew Gikes and Sam Billings then led the team’s recovery. The duo paced their innings wonderfully and took the team’s total to 118 in 14.1 overs.

Sam Billings played an outstanding 43 off 31 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six. However, he got out in an important period in the game. Daniel Sams too followed him after playing just 3 balls. However, Mathew Gikes stood firm and took the innings forward. He scored 56 off 49 balls before getting out in the 18th over.

Allex Ross and Ben Cutting then produced much-needed boundaries and kept the team very much in the chase. The equation eventually came down to 11 needed in the final 6 deliveries. Adam Zampa bowled the final over of the innings and, much to the team’s delight, he gave only 6 runs in his over.

He didn’t let Ross and Cutting hit a single four in the over. Needing 5 runs on the final ball, Zampa bowled flat leg-break which resulted in a dot ball. Melbourne Stars, as a result of that, won the game by 4 runs.
