Brian Lara Eager To Return To India For Road Safety World Series

Former West Indies legend and one of cricket’s all-time greats, Brian Lara is eager to return to India, after having left the country midway through the Road Safety World Series (RSWS), due to security concerns regarding Coronavirus.

The inaugural season of Road Safety World Series had been called to an abrupt halt due to Covid-19 virus scare in India. The tournament featured four overseas teams alongside hosts India, but due to fear of Coronavirus, the Twenty20 league has been cancelled.

As per reports, the tournament organisers and authorities had suggested that teams could play behind closed gates, an approach other leagues have adapted too. Although, reasons unknown, that didn’t come to fruition.

As a consequence, all the teams have left India for their respective countries but Lara remains optimistic that the Road Safety World Series will be reorganised soon.

Brian Lara optimistic of coming back to India for Road Safety World Series

Sachin Tendulkar led team India Legends, had won both their opening games in the tournament before it was called off. They defeated West Indies Legends by seven wickets in the inaugural game of the league, and later won the second game versus Sri Lanka legends by five wickets.

In other matches, South Africa and Lanka registered a win each while the West Indies were winless in the Road Safety World Series.

“They [Maharashtra government] want us to play games in front of empty stands, which is not fair. Also, players are worried and thinking about their families back home. Hence, the tournament is cancelled,” a source told mid-day on Thursday.

Furthermore, the tournament is expected to resume in May 2020, or later in the year and West Indies skipper expects to be back to India soon.

“People not only came to see cricket icons from the past. They also came in support of the venture, which is great. The situation is a little disappointing but we are looking forward to coming back and taking part in the remaining games of the series,” said Lara in a recent interview.
