CA And ECB Continue Working On The Ashes, No Plans Of Postponement

Cricket Australia (CA) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are in regular contact regarding the Ashes. The series is expected to be held according to the schedule. There were also reports which claimed that the England players were planning to mass boycott the series.

However, CA chief Nick Hockley has cleared the air as of now. He has revealed that there has been no communication from his counterpart, Tom Harrison, indicating the England side will be sending a depleted squad sans the senior players.

“Cricket Australia continues to work closely with the ECB and government authorities in Australia regarding the upcoming Ashes series, which will be the centerpiece for one of the biggest summers of cricket on record.”

“We are currently planning the operational requirements of this tour and working with the ECB on the proposed make-up of the England touring party. As was the case last season, CA will work constructively and in partnership with government to deliver the summer of cricket, while ensuring the health, wellbeing, and safety of the community,” CA said in a statement.

CA expects few England players to pull out due to personal reasons

The strict protocols in Australia regarding quarantine have left some England players wondering about their options. The CA or ECB don’t expect a mass boycott of any sort for the Ashes. However, it does believe a few players might pull out of the tour.

There has been an internal dispute amongst the ECB and its players according to reports. The players aren’t willing to put their families through two weeks of stern quarantine. However, the rules in Australia do dictate that anybody visiting will be subject to a 14-day quarantine period.

The cricketers have also brought up a couple of options for the ECB to consider. One of them is the series being completely postponed by at least 12 months. Another option is to schedule a split series. The first half will be played this summer before concluding the remainder in the 2022/23 series.
