Shafali Verma Leapfrogs Beth Mooney To Become The No. 1 T20I Batter

Indian opening batter Shafali Verma has once again become the top-ranked batter in the Women’s T20I batters rankings, overtaking Australia’s, Beth Mooney.

Notably, Shafali Verma, who became the No.1 women’s T20I batter for the first time during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020, now has 726 rating points in her bag, which is just two more than Australia’s Beth Mooney, who missed the T20 International series against England due to an injury.

Australian skipper Meg Lanning and all-rounder Tahlia McGrath have advanced in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after the Aussies won the three-match series against England by 1-0 at home.

The duo of Meg Lanning and all-rounder Tahlia McGrath was involved in a 144-run partnership for the second wicket in the only match that saw a result. Also, Lanning’s 64 runs knock has helped her to overtake star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana to the third position in the rankings. Tahlia McGrath, who scored 91 runs off 49 in the match, is now ranked 28th.

The weekly updates include the performances of players in the recently concluded five-team ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, and the Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who scored 221 runs in the event, has made significant gains and is now placed eighth. Also, Bangladesh’s Murshida Khatun is up 35 places to 48th after smashing 126 runs in the tournament.

Player of the Series award winner in the Kuala Lumpur tournament, Athapaththu, has moved up four places to 52nd among bowlers. She picked 4 wickets in the tournament and her most impactful performance came in the decisive match against Bangladesh, where she bagged a three-wicket haul. Athapaththu is also up one place to seventh among all-rounders in the list.

England opening batters Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont have also moved up in the rankings and Wyatt is ranked 13th and Beaumont 16th their skipper Heather Knight has also joined them in the top 20.
