Steve Smith was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant batting performance in both the innings against India.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has slipped down to the third place in the ICC Test Rankings after his absence from the Test series after the first Test in Adelaide. Kohli had flown back to India after the Adelaide Test as he had been granted a paternal leave by the BCCI and the Indian skipper became a father on January 11 as his wife Anushka Sharma gave birth to their daughter.

Australian batsman Steve Smith has gained in his ICC Test Rankings as he has now jumped to the second spot in the Rankings. In the first innings of the Sydney Test, he had scored a scintillating century and ended his innings on 131 runs. In the second innings, he was once again up to the task as he scored 81 runs in the second innings.
Virat Kohli has dropped a spot and moved to the 3rd spot in the rankings. Marnus Labuschagne and Babar Azam have held the 4th and 5th spots respectively. While Marnus Labuschagne has played decent knocks throughout the series, Babar Azam was ruled out of the series against New Zealand due to injury.
