Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav made huge strides in becoming the No. 1 ranked T20I batter in the world following his brilliant knock in the third T20I against West Indies on Tuesday.

Suryakumar opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma and went on to score 76 during India’s run chase of 165. With that, he has overtaken Aiden Markram and Mohammad Rizwan to move to second place.

Babar Azam leads the T20I rankings with 818 rating points while Suryakumar is now sitting in the second spot with 816 rating points to his name. He has the chance to overtake the Pakistani skipper with the final two matches against West Indies in sight.

The 31-year-old made his debut last year and his attractive strokeplay has caught the attention of the fans. Notably, Suryakumar’s best feature is the momentum he can inject into an innings by scoring at a high rate no matter where he bats in the order.

“Really happy with the way things went” – Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar’s knock came after Rohit went back to the hut following a back injury. The pressure was on the Mumbaikar to deliver and he did it in style.

Really happy with the way things went. Was important for someone to bat 15-17 overs after Rohit went back inside. We saw yesterday what happened in the second innings.”

Was important for someone to bat deep and win the game, that’s what I’ve focussed on. Just backed myself and enjoying it,” Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The fourth T20I between India and West Indies will take place on Saturday.
