England and South Africa take on each other in the second test in Manchester starting from August 25. The hosts are trailing the three-match series and thus this game is a must-win for them. South Africa won the first test by an innings and 12 runs. They are topping the WTC points table while England are placed seventh.

England skipper Ben Stokes recently spoke about the busy international schedule taking a lot of energy out of the players. His comments came after he admitted of being on medication to recover from his father’s death due to cancer.

“The schedule is extremely jam-packed, with absolutely little or no breathing space for international players. It is just wrong, how the matches have been scheduled. It feels like a joke but on the flip side, I certainly know that I can’t play these many matches on my own. The fact that few series are scheduled to overlap each other is just ridiculous and it does not give ample time for the athletes to rest” Ben Stokes said admitting the schedule is taking a toll on his mental health.

Meanwhile, the England side is looking to recover after the massive defeat with its experienced players due to a big match-winning performance. South Africa, on the other hand, is high on confidence after the big win at Lor’s. Skipper Dean Elgar lauded his players for notching up an important win in the first Test.

“The boys did a great job. I’ve got good coaching staff and a very good think-tank behind me to make those decisions (about captaincy). Kesh worked out very well for us. Sometimes you got to go with your gut feel. He (Erwee) is pretty feisty when he gets going. Great member to have in the team. He has started well. We will enjoy today” said Elgar.
