The second NZ vs SL ODI will be played in Christchurch on March 28. New Zealand won the first ODI by 198 runs and are leading the series 1-0. The match starts from 6.30 am IST which is 2 pm local time. 

Chasing New Zealand’s 275-run target, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 76 to register one of their lowest totals in ODI cricket. Senior all-rounder Angelo Mathews top-scored with 18 runs. Henry Shipley took five 31 in seven overs as Blair Tickner and Dayl Mitchell took two wickets each.

Tom Latham in the absence of Kane Williamson and Tim Southee will lead the side. Pacer Lockie Ferguson was ruled out of the first ODI with a hamstring injury and has now joined the KKR camp for IPL 2023. Matt Henry will lead the bowling attack in Ferguson’s absence with Ish Sodhi for support.

Sri Lanka will be led by Dasun Shanaka. The board has named a full-strength side knowing what is at stake in this ODI series. They have also recalled former skipper Angelo Mathews back into the side. Sri Lanka lost the Test series 0-2 heading into the ODIs. In the process, they have been knocked out from the WTC final race with India and Australia taking the top two spots.

The 2023 ODI World Cup will be a 10-team tournament with the top seven teams have already qualified. India being the hosts have earned a direct qualification. The final team will be between Sri Lanka, South Africa, and West Indies who will earn a direct qualification. The Islanders need to win the series for direct qualification.

The likes of Ireland, Netherlands, and Zimbabwe will play the qualifiers in Zimbabwe in June. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 will be hosted in Zimbabwe from 18 June to 9 July to decide the final two teams for India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. 

The first ODI in Napier between the two teams will be their 100th against each other. So far in 100 ODIs, The Kiwis have won 50 games while the Lankans have won 41. Eight matches ended in a no-result including one tied game.
