West Indies and New Zealand take on each other in a three-match ODI series starting with the first game on August 17. The hosts lost the T20I series 2-1 but won the final T20I to take something out of that series. They now will have to play the ODI series with the mindset to win it. All three games will be played in Barbados

Rovman Powell led West Indies in the third T20I as Nicholas Pooran was rested from the last game. Powell scored an unbeaten 27 off 15 balls after his openers set up the game for him.

” It’s a pleasure playing for WI, it’s a special feeling to be the captain. I chopped and changed to keep the bowlers fresh and the NZ batters thinking. Last night, we talked about it – more people coming in. Thanks to them for coming in large numbers. Brandon played really well and so did Brooks, they complemented each other” said Powell after winning his first game as WI captain.

Kane Williamson won the T20I series on his return as the skipper of the side. He was out of the game owing to health and fitness issues but made a good comeback to the side. He congratulated the Windies on winning the third T20I and also kept a word on the series win.

” Firstly, congratulations to the West Indies the way they played. They adapted well. They executed the plans beautifully. They outplayed us. The effort was there, it was great to get the series win. There’s a lot of enjoyment playing in this group. Great to see the team progress and that’s where our focus has been. We rotated a little bit. We saw some great stuff, looking forward to the one-day series” Williamson said.

New Zealand are the top-ranked side at the moment. They have a far more experienced squad than the hosts who have a relatively inexperienced ODI squad. The Kiwis are likely to win the first game and possibly the series as well.
