Under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian team is set to face Sri Lanka in an ODI and T20I series next month in July. India will play 3 matches each during the Sri Lanka T20I series and ODI series. Since many crucial Indian players are currently in England for the 5-match Test series to be played in August-September 2021, a secondary squad has been formed for the Sri Lanka tour.
The ODI series will be played from July 13 to July 18. The India vs Sri Lanka T20I series will commence after the ODI series, with the first T20I match on July 21. The Indian squad comprises some experienced players, some new players, and some uncapped players.
Since there are only 3 matches to be played during the T20I series, there are few Indian players who might not a chance to play. Here we take a look at 3 Indian players who might be benched throughout the Sri Lanka T20I series.
3 Indian Players Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Sri Lanka T20I Series
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the first player who might be benched in India vs Sri Lanka T20I series. The right-handed batsman played a couple of brilliant knocks for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021. He scored 196 runs in 7 innings with 2 half-centuries. However, the Indian squad consists of brilliant openers like Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
Moreover, RCB opener Devdutt Pakikkal is also in the queue to make his debut in the Sri Lanka tour. There are only two spots for openers in the playing XI and with such narrow competition for the opening spots among the Indian squad, Ruturaj Gaikwad might not get a chance to play.
