Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have seven IPL titles between themselves but both teams performed below their expectations. KKR finished seventh on the points table while Mumbai Indians finished last.

Ahead of the next IPL season, both teams have a lot of work to do in terms of fine-tuning their squad in the upcoming mini-auction. IPL 2023 will be played in April-May and before that in February the mini-auction will be held.

KKR struggled with finding an ideal combination throughout the season. They made as many as 21 changes across the 14 league games, the most by any team in the last IPL season. Ideally, the side needs a good overseas opener, a good Indian middle-order batsman and a good Indian spinner to support Sunil Narine. Varun Chakravarthy was not at his best in this IPL season performing below par than what he did in 2021. He might well be released by the franchise ahead of next season.

Various teams will release a few of their unused and extra players in order to buy players who fit the bill for that season. KKR also has a chance to buy some of the best players from other teams. In this article, we focus on three Mumbai Indians players Kolkata can target in the auction.

Either of these two bowlers can be good support for Sunil Narine. Markande and Ashwin both are leg spinners of different kinds. Ashwin flights the ball while Markande mixes up his pace very well. With Narine operating from the other end, both the bowlers can bring their abilities to the team as well. KKR should have an eye on Ashwin since he is the more experienced of the two.
