Kolkata Knight Riders won against Punjab Kings in the only game that they played against each other in IPL 2022. Andre Russell scored an unbeaten 70 to help KKR win the game chasing 139 to win. However, by the end of the season, KKR and Punjab were in the second half of the points table. Punjab incidentally finished a position higher than the Knights in the points table.

It was a disappointing campaign nevertheless for both teams. The season was about a lot of possibilities and the talent not being transformed into performances. IPL 2023 starts in May-June next year and before that there will be a mini-auction. The mini-auction allows every team to release some of their reserve players and aim for key players from other teams who fit the bill of the franchise. In order to sort out their opening woes, Kolkata Knight Riders should target getting Shikhar Dhawan into their ranks. Dhawan has been the most consistent Indian batter in the IPL scoring over 1600 runs since 2020. Getting Dhawan will hopefully solve their batting issues as the southpaw will bring in his consistency at the top of the order.

Liam Livingstone

Livingstone in his first full season in the IPL showed the world how T20 cricket should be played. He played with a very different template attacking from ball 1. He ended with 437 runs this season. He also bowled a few handy overs and he can bowl both off and leg-spin which makes him a three-dimensional cricketer. With KKR needing firepower in the middle-order, Livingstone would be the perfect option.

Rahul Chahar

Chahar has bowled well often against KKR in the past. The management can now seize the option to rope him in and bowl for Kolkata. He is a quality leg-spinner and would be an ideal foil for someone like Sunil Narine. Chahar is an in-your-face type of cricketer and has an aggressive attitude towards the game.
