5 Indian Players Whose International Careers Can Be Revamped Under A New Selection Committee.  BCCI is set to announce the new batch of selectors next week. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) are meeting on a date to shortlist the candidates. But with hardly any big names applying for the posts, Chetan Sharma is set to continue in the selection committee.

But with Venkatesh Prasad frontrunner to come in from South Zone, it is unlikely that Chetan would stay on as the chairman. The new selection committee will pick the Indian squad for India vs New Zealand series.

However, a decision on the permanent move will only be made when new selectors come in. Hardik Pandya is likely to remain captain till 2024 T20 World Cup. The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube, Rahul Tewatia and Rishi Dhawan’s career can be revamped by new selection committee.

The national selectors once again neglected to include opening batsman Prithvi Shaw in the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. The two squads were revealed by the BCCI on Tuesday, December 27.

He has played only 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I and has amassed 339 runs averaging 42.37 in Tests and 189 runs averaging 31.5 in ODIs. Prithvi Shaw last played for the national team in July on Sri Lanka 2021 tour and was out for a first-ball duck on his T20I debut (the only T20I he played). He has played 6 ODIs, scoring 189 runs and 5 Tests with 339 runs with one century to his name.

He was the 2nd highest run-getter with 332 runs averaging 36.88 in 10 games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 at a strike rate of 181.42. With 315 runs, including two hundred and a fifty, he finished third highest run-getter in the Duleep Trophy. The opening batter’s strike rate of 92.92, was the highest in the competition among players who scored more than 21 runs.

Manish Pandey

With a fighting century, Manish Pandey helped India win a one-day international in Australia in 2016 and also scored a century at Centurion during the 2009 IPL. ever since then, Manish Pandey has been hot and cold, due to his inconsistency, he has been in and out of the national squad.

Manish Pandey has played 29 ODIs and 39 T20Is amassing 566 ODI and 709 T20I runs averaging 33.29 and 44.31 respectively in the limited overs formats. Despite debuting against Zimbabwe way back in 2015, he hasn’t gotten chances regularly. His last ODI came against Sri Lanka in 2021 and his last T20I came against Australia in 2020. His career can be revamped by the new selection committee.

Shivam Dube

Facing Bangladesh on 3 November 2019, Shivam Dube earned his T20I debut for India. The series landed him a comparison with Yuvraj Singh but as of now, it turned out to be an utter flop comparison made by the cricket pundits.

Shivam Dube has featured in only 1 ODI and 13 T20Is averaging less than 20 in both formats and has picked only 5 scalps in T20Is averaging over 40 with the ball. He played only 1 ODI against West Indies on December 2019, while his last T20I came against New Zealand in February 2020.

Shivam Dube has done well for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League though. In IPL 2022, he scored 289 runs in 11 games averaging 28.9 at a strike rate of 156.22. His career can be revamped by the new selection committee.

Rahul Tewatia

An all-rounder, and hard-hitting finisher, Rahul Tewatia was picked up by the Gujarat Titans for INR 9 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He scored 217 runs averaging 31 at a strike rate of 147.62 in 16 IPL 2022 games but failed to pick a wicket.

Earlier, Rahul Tewatia was traded to Rajasthan Royals from Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2020. Rahul Tewatia made his IPL debut with RR in 2014 and set the stage on fire for RR in IPL 2020. The left-handed batsman scored 255 runs which included a memorable 31-ball 53-run blitz where he hit 5 sixes in an over and scalped 10 wickets in IPL 2020.

Rahul Tewatia failed to make his debut for the Indian team in March against England. Although, he was included in the five-match T20I series against England, unfortunately, he failed to clear the fitness test twice. His career can be revamped by a new selection committee.

Rishi Dhawan, the pace all-rounder, has played for Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings (IPL 2014-16 and IPL 2022). In 26 matches for PBKS, he has scored 169 runs averaging 28.17 besides taking 22 scalps averaging 31.23. Overall, he has scored 190 runs and taken 24 scalps.

Rishi Dhawan has been a force to reckon with in domestic cricket but is yet to find success in international cricket, having only played three ODIs and one T20I. He last played for India in 2016.

He led Himachal Pradesh to its first-ever title in Vijay Hazare 2021-22. Rishi Dhawan was the side’s leading wicket-taker as well as the leading run-scorer. Rishi Dhawan became the first player in Vijay Hazare Trophy history to finish among the top five run-getters and the top five wicket-takers in the same season.

The all-rounder finished as the second-highest run-getter with 458 runs in 2021-22, while the 17 wickets he picked up were also the second-highest, all across eight matches. His career can be revamped by the new selection committee.
