Former India batsman Aakash Chopra has taken an indirect dig at Hardik Pandya over his move to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans. Arguably the biggest trade in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Hardik Pandya’s transfer has stunned the Indian cricket fraternity.

Not many would have predicted the transfer after the allrounder’s highly successful first two seasons with Gujarat Titans. After spending seven seasons with Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya joined Gujarat Titans in 2022 and was appointed as the captain. He tasted instant success as he led the team to the title in its first-ever IPL season.

In its second season earlier this year, Hardik Pandya enjoyed yet another productive campaign as a captain where he led the Titans to the final before they lost to Chennai Super Kings. But despite being made the captain of the team and enjoying two great seasons, Hardik Pandya decided to return to move back to Mumbai Indians.

The fans on social media have been asserting that the allrounder’s move was motivated by money, and Aakash Chopra also seems to share the same belief. On Tuesday (November 28), Aakash Chopra took to X to take an indirect dig at allrounder for choosing money over legacy, writing:

“Once in a while life would give you an opportunity to choose between money and legacy. Whatever you choose will define you for the rest of your life.”

He was also engaged in a heated exchange with a fan after the latter accused of him choosing money over legacy too. Replying to the accusation, Aakash Chopra wrote: “How did you figure that out?? Legacy kahan se aayi?? In all fairness, having the first ever Individual cricket show on TV and OTT would be considered as a ‘legacy’ project. That’s what I have on Jio.”

Hardik Pandya on his return:

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has expressed his excitement over returning to Mumbai Indians. The allrounder began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2015 and won 4 titles with them in 7 seasons before being released.

“Rohit, Bumrah, Surya, Ishan, Polly, Malinga. Come on, let’s begin. Obviously the feel of coming back to Mumbai is very special for a lot of reasons. How my cricketing journey started in 2015 with MI, them noticing me in 2013. You know when I look back and how my span of 10 years has been something very special,” said Hardik Pandya.

“It has not sunk in yet that finally I’m back where my whole cricketing journey started. I have achieved all the possible things. They have been the most important part of my life. Special bond with Akash (Ambani) and the whole family. They’ve been with my through thick and thin and it’s much more emotional because it feels like I am coming back home, and my family where it all started,” he added.
